The main part of the movie was a Saturday night live type spoof where people dressed up as teachers from The Secret, such a Joe Vitale, and presented the Law of Attraction as something you could do from home without “doing anything”. I didn’t take this away from the Secret- even Abraham-Hicks (who “the Secret” was reportedly based on and great Masters of the Law of Attraction, great manifesters from thought), encourage people to take action while using the Law of Attraction (LOA).

I don’t think John Assaraf or Bob Proctor or any of the other teachers from the Secret have had their successes without a good measure of hard work, even though they were joked about during the movie, but I  think they have learned the practical application of quantum physics to insure greater success when they do take action. The many I am familiar with had been able to turn around a meager or difficult beginning by having a new understanding of the laws of the universe, and applying it when they took action.

So I would say, perhaps “The Secret” movie implies something to some people that the teachers in the movie have not really shown to be the case in their own lives, just to sit home and wait for things to drop in their lap.  But it does make an important point; that we are influenced by the energy of the universe around us, but even more we are the directors and influencers, and we can choose to acknowledge it or not as we see fit.  We can choose to swim upstream, or align with our true intentions and go with the current, and learn to understand the difference as it plays out in our lives.

The truth about the Law of Attraction is that it follows thoughts, beliefs and intentions like a fair and un-fickle friend to serve up more of the same.  It is always working, just like gravity is always in force, and cannot be turned on when someone wants a positive outcome or turned off to avoid a negative one.  But unlike gravity, it is part of the unseen forces of the universe, and many people live out their entire lives unaware of it’s power or their own abilities to tap into that power.

I have the utmost respect for Suzanne Evans, and Joe Polish and couldn’t wait to hear their comments in this controversial movie.  I came from a background where the only acceptable attitude was one of hard work, and see that most of us do.  I don’t see in reality that the teachers from the Secret shy away from it.  But I would say, please read “The Biology of Belief” by Dr. Bruce Lipton, to really understand who’s steering your ship, and why.

I think both Joe and Suzanne are tremendously successful working within a common belief that you have to work hard to do well, and have no reason to look for any other information.  They are tops in their field and are true to the best internet model, that you can only teach what you have proven to work for you.  And boy, have they proven it.

But I offer the idea that it is the belief driving it, that had they grown up with different experiences and teaching and a different belief system, they could have just as easily have found another way.  They are two extraordinarily successful people who enjoy seeing success coming from “hard work”, who I see also get the benefits of the law of attraction that is always at work, because of the enormous positive energies they project.  In this instance, they don’t see all the reasons they are successful, and as normal claim the things that makes them most proud.

I think their movie is an interesting exercise.  The movie “The Secret” doesn’t tell the whole story for sure, but I say that hard work isn’t the only reason they are successful by a long shot. To me the successful people in each of these two movies are closer in practice to each other, than they are different, and more like each other, and quite a bit different from unsuccessful people.

But things would have come together for them in a pretty good way in their childhood-enough lack to be motivating, a few role models to encourage them to break free of their limitations and give them hope and encouragement that they could, and in both cases people that they valued with a strong work ethic, and undeniably gifted with personalities filled with positive drive, and a feeling of responsibility to make things happen.

To me the value of working hard, is that you get to what you need to learn faster, what you need to figure out.  Creating a business is like blazing a new trail, it’s new uncharted territory, something that has never been done before-and that’s exciting.  But we only have our vision to go on.  I think both groups are visualizing a lot, unless they really like trial and error a lot more than I do.

But what about the rest of the folks you are trying to coach, that didn’t have that just right childhood for their personality and drive?  Until you realize what is in your whole package for success, I don’t think you can teach it completely.     I am grateful for this discussion , as I write my book on the subject, and for these thought provoking conversations.   

Up until 3 years ago, I held on to these values with everything that was in me and worked to exhaustion every day until I finally collapsed from a series of traumatic events followed by severe illness.  My life has never been the same, but now I am grateful and understand it was the only thing that would have stopped me.  I needed to take a new path, to allow my spirit and creativity room to grow and expand.  It’s a beautiful new world that I refused to allow, so it came in to find me.

Why Sell Your Book on Kindle?

Going through the process of getting your book published and in book stores can be time consuming and expensive, and depending on the book can involve travel for book signings and other promotions.  And the Kindle started out as a cool way to take your books to the beach.  But recently, Amazon has become intent on gaining market share in the e-book market, by creating applications for PC’s, Apples, even IPads, and other mobile devices.  You no longer have to have a Kindle to read your Kindle book, you can download it to your computer with the Amazon app. The Kindle is lower priced than it used to be, and sells in a variety of stores like Walmart and Best Buy.  Amazon has set higher commissions for books priced between $2.99 and $9.99, and made it free for authors to upload their books. The overall effect is one that sells more books, and makes it faster, easier, and cheaper for authors to get their books to market.

For the last year or two, I have been firmly focused on finding the truth about which marketing programs are really working online right now, while recouperating from a  serious illness. Having been an entrepreneur most of my life, and loving marketing for its ability to turn on profits where none existed, I have been thrilled to find some excellent business models presented by knowledgeable teachers in the last 6 months. There are some great tools and methods, not aimed at tricking anyone to buy, but to utilize the web to bring those to our message who can genuinely benefit, and help us go out to the entire world in a way never possible before to find customers who never knew we were here.

So let’s get started. What is most on my mind these days? The incredible changes in Amazon, mainly in the Kindle.  Once considered by some to be a high priced gadget for wealthy beach-goers, the Kindle materials are now available for instant download to PC’s and Mac’s, not to mention handheld devices of every decription.  And once a difficult and time consuming job, becoming a published author is now within the reach of anyone who is serious enough about a topic to produce quality, useful content.  Although we still love Clickbank, which revolutionized the instant e-book delivery and affiliate attraction and payment system, the Kindle offers an added benefit of being free for your e-book submissions.

But It’s the marketing aspects that really got my attention, as the cost of getting each customer rises in this economy, and the promise of profit sometimes fades. While most savvy marketers are happy to give away valuable content to attract the ideal customer, the Kindle provides a way to find new customers that pays something, while educating them about the benefits of their higher priced products. All in a way that is easier, faster, cheaper, with no book signings.

How to Have Big Company Impact as a Solo Entrepreneur

 My husband and I have shared a few laughs over the years thinking back to times that each of us badly needed to make a fledgling company grow into a final vision, with only a few days, and a few dollars to spare.

 I’ll never forget the story he told me about the time he was bidding on a contract to make some large and very detailed models for a customer. It came time for the inspector to drop by the business to make sure there was something actually there, and my husband started thinking that the hand tools required to actually do the job, didn’t look too impressive sitting there on the table.

 He had plenty of places that he could borrow a large saw to cut the one large platform to build the project on, but he knew the inspector had to see it in place when he arrived to understand. So with just a day or two notice, he went to a tool rental place and rented several large woodworking tools to fill up his workshop. He took his envelopes of small photos of the other jobs that he had done, and had them blown up into a portfolio, that showed the great work he had done for others and had professional written all over it. So when the inspectors showed up a few days later, he showed he was capable of doing the job, and that’s what they wanted. The fact that he knew that he looked ready and able gave him confidence, and he was able to relax and talk about the details of how he was going to produce the model, which was then completed to their satisfaction.

 But in the meantime, after he was awarded the contract and the inspector left, he had a really good laugh. In his haste of setting up he hadn’t even plugged the equipment in! I was rolling on the floor laughing when he told me.

 And I think this is a perfect example because the point was not to fake being able to do something that he couldn’t do –that is never a solution, and in this case he was well-qualified. It was all about creating the business image that would make the inspectors, in this case the decision makers, feel confident at a glance so that he would get hired for the job. The old saying “you never get a second chance to make a first impression” is as important to your business image, as it is to your own personal image.

 This is not much different than putting on a good suit for a job interview, and researching the employer to put your best foot forward. It is all about getting your image just right to convey to the employer that you are the person for the job.

 I’ll always remember the first big show I did in Boston, after I started my sheep-to-sweater business in Vermont so many years ago. I was putting the finishing touches on how I would set up my table at the show, to impart the charm that people always felt when they came out to the farm to buy yarn, visit the newborn lambs, or be measured for a handmade sweater.

 I was startled when out of the blue the phone rang, and it was the producer of a live news show on WBZ in Boston, asking if I would come to their studio to make the commercials for the coming show! I was in shock, and worried that I had neither time nor money to come up with the image I wanted to portray on a major television station.

 But I knew it was time to step up to the plate. In the next three days I had a print made of the wonderful painting that hung at the entrance to the farm. I took all of the pictures of the sheep and the sweaters and put them into an impressive album. I somehow found a printer in the basement of a local church that printed my painting of shearing sheep, and I had created my logo and my first yarn label. I turned over the label, and had the backside printed on half of them, with the natural colors of the yarn and ordering information, and created my first sample card.

 No designer could have given me a more nostalgic, unique or charming look, that appealed to sophisticated city dwellers, as well as my neighbors and friends in Vermont.

 The story didn’t end there. Just before I left to go to Boston I got a second call from the TV producers at WBZ. This time they were asking me if I would be willing to do an entire segment on the show — live! — be interviewed, show my sweaters, and tell the story behind the designs. What a blowout of a craft show I had as a result, and I continued to run into people for years afterward that remembered me from that one TV appearance.

 There are many points that could be made from this simple story. Perhaps the most important is the power and vibration of your internal vision when you create a business from your heart. It gives you the confidence to take on that windfall business when it comes, no matter how unexpectedly it may be. It shows you the true power of the law of attraction to match you up with people who want and appreciate what it is that you offer, and lets you experience in real-time your business dream coming to fruition.

 In the next few articles I will be expanding this idea as I discuss the ways to multiply your business efforts many times over. I will be talking about how to outsource to give yourself full productivity as a business owner, even if you are a solo entrepreneur. We will follow that with discussions of joint ventures, to expand the reach of your business even further. And last but not least I will wrap up the series with a discussion of the law of attraction and how you can apply it to your business, called “Make a Money Magnet of Your Business”.

1. What do you know about?
List your education, background, jobs and any extra training you might have had.

What are you good at outside of work? What are your hobbies, sports that you enjoy, or recreation that you do on a regular basis?

Have you ever raised a garden, had pets, raised animals, or helped a child or family member overcome a challenge? What are the challenges in your life that you have overcome, that you’re most proud of? Could you help someone else with that?

4. The next step is to find the relationship between all of these things that will deliver the most expertise for your customer, coupled with the most enjoyment for both of you. In the first column, list the top three to five favorite things that you either know about or are good at.  Now is the time to prioritize.

In a second column next to it, list the top three things that you enjoy sharing with other people.

Brainstorm as many associations as you can possibly think of, between these two columns. If what you enjoy most is baking, and what you love sharing most is surprising children, you might want to consider helping other parents throw parties for their kids, for example.You might brainstorm writing a cookbook for kids, and decide to have a few kids over to test it out. If you have nutrition education, you could help kids with special diets.
